"Airtricity consent obtained to develop Dutch biggest offshore wind farm"
Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), through its renewables development division, Airtricity, has obtained consent from the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management for construction of the offshore wind farm 'West-Rijn', located in the Dutch sector of the North Sea. Once constructed, 'West Rijn' will be the biggest wind farm in the Netherlands, and will make a major contribution to the Dutch national target of 6,000 MW of offshore wind capacity in 2020.
'West-Rijn' will consist of up to 72 wind turbines with a total potential energy capacity of 259 Megawatts (MW). It is located 40 kilometres off the Dutch North Sea coast, approximately 90 kilometres from the city of Rotterdam.
Airtricity is busy for more than four years now to obtain consent for construction of wind farm West Rijn. Pondera Consult assist Airtricity in this procedure by providing an Environmental Impact Assessment and the consent. The focus will now be on the final phase of the development process, securing financial support from the Dutch government through the renewables support mechanism ('SDE').
Pondera Consult assist Airtricity also with other offshore wind farms and is happy to go to a next phase to develop West Rijn.
